Forty years of commuting between Inwood and the rest of this city will teach you where to find a decent bookshop, and where the staff will leave you alone with a novel for twenty minutes without trying to sell you a tote bag. This list runs the full length of the A train and beyond, from the stacks at Word Up down to the Strand's eighteen miles of everything. I have opinions about all of them, delivered here with the restraint I no longer need to exercise on teenagers.
