Right, pin back your lugholes. This isn't some tourist board nonsense about the West End — this is where I've actually stood with a lukewarm pint watching someone butcher a Oasis cover or, on a good night, properly lose my mind to a brass band I'd never heard of. Orford Road's my manor so most of these are a short stagger from the quiz table, and the rest are worth the bus fare. Walthamstow does live music the way Walthamstow does everything — unpretentious, a bit scruffy round the edges, and better than half of London thinks.

1Orford House Social Club	73 Orford Road, Walthamstow, E17 9QR	London	My actual local, two doors from the quiz. Open mic second Thursday of the month and it's always a lottery whether you get a bloke doing Oasis or a genuinely brilliant folk trio. Garden's lovely in summer, don't @ me.
2Mirth, Marvel and Maud	186 Hoe Street, Walthamstow, E17 4QH	London	Old cinema, proper history — Beatles, Stones, the lot played here when it was the Granada. Now it's gigs, DJs and a cinema room upstairs. Get there early, it fills up quicker than the Goose on derby day.
3The Flower Pot	128 Wood Street, Walthamstow, E17 3HX	London	Wood Street's answer to a working men's club with a stage. Live music most weekends, tribute nights that range from 'uncanny' to 'bless him for trying'. Bass on tap, which helps either way.
4Ye Olde Rose & Crown Theatre Pub	55-57 Hoe Street, Walthamstow, E17 4SA	London	Award winner in the Good Beer Guide and does theatre, comedy and live music under one roof with an art gallery thrown in. Sounds like it's trying too hard. It isn't. It's just Walthamstow being quietly brilliant.
5Walthamstow Assembly Hall	Forest Road, Walthamstow, E17 4JF	London	Grade II listed Art Deco beauty with acoustics that'll make a tribute act sound like the real thing. Bigger touring shows and orchestral nights here — put your good shirt on, this one's a step up from the pub circuit.
6The Village Walthamstow	31 Orford Road, Walthamstow, E17 9NL	London	Literally across the road from the social club, so it's basically my second office. Been putting on acoustic nights for years — more low-key than a gig, more fun than it has any right to be at 9pm on a Thursday.
7Nag's Head	9 Orford Road, Walthamstow, E17 9LP	London	Another one on my home strip, picturesque garden and all. Live music on the regular — nothing flashy, just a proper boozer that knows how to put a band in a corner and let them get on with it.
