Twelve stops I keep circling back to, usually after missing my actual station because the book (or the exhibit) got good. Ranked on vibes, not footfall stats — my day job has enough spreadsheets already. Free ones are basically a free transfer, so take them.

Museen, die einen Umweg wert sind — 10 items
Name	Address	City	My take
1British Museum	Great Russell Street, London WC1B 3DG	London	Like Zone 1 itself — overwhelming, slightly too busy, secretly brilliant if you know which entrance to use.
2Natural History Museum	Cromwell Road, London SW7 5BD	London	The blue whale in Hintze Hall gets me every single time, and I've been more times than I'll admit.
3Science Museum	Exhibition Road, London SW7 2DD	London	Went in for the flight gallery, stayed two hours in the medicine bit. Classic own goal on my schedule.
4Victoria and Albert Museum	Cromwell Road, London SW7 2RL	London	Fashion galleries make me want to bin my entire wardrobe and start again on a museum-assistant salary.
5Tate Modern	Bankside, London SE1 9TG	London	Turbine Hall installations are the closest London gets to a proper away-day atmosphere, minus the away end chanting.
6Design Museum	224-238 Kensington High Street, London W8 6AG	London	Small enough to do on a lunch break, which as a transport nerd I respect as excellent journey planning.
7Sir John Soane's Museum	13 Lincoln's Inn Fields, London WC2A 3BP	London	Absolute maze of mirrors and skulls. Book ahead — turning up on spec here is like turning up at Wembley without a ticket.
8Museum of London Docklands	No 1 Warehouse, West India Quay, London E14 4AL	London	The old sailortown recreation is properly atmospheric, and it's a nice excuse to ride the DLR like a rollercoaster.
9Horniman Museum and Gardens	100 London Road, Forest Hill, London SE23 3PQ	London	Worth the Overground trek south just for the walrus and the gardens after. Free, too — basically a bargain day return.
10Churchill War Rooms	Clive Steps, King Charles Street, London SW1A 2AQ	London	Claustrophobic in the best way. Handy pre-match wander too, being a stone's throw from Westminster.
