Every gaff I've humped a snake of XLR into around this town, ranked by how it actually sounds on the night, not how it looks on the poster. Northside, southside, doesn't matter — if the desk's sound and the crowd's game, I'll take the late finish. Add Vicar Street to the list this year for how they've kept the room tight even on the big seated nights.

3The Workman's Club	10 Wellington Quay	Dublin	Up-and-comers, late DJ sets	Cellar's tight for cables but the crowd's always up for it. Good buzz, no ego.
4The Academy	57 Middle Abbey Street	Dublin	Mid-size touring acts	Three floors, three different headaches. Main room PA is sound though, no complaints there.
