Bookshops That Get Me

Okay so between set builds and scene changes I basically live at the bookstore to decompress (my castmates think it's weird I read scripts for FUN but whatever!). This is my running list of NYC bookshops I keep going back to — some for the script sections, some for the cheap paperback bins, one because it's literally where a musical about Hamilton probably started its life, no big deal!! Forest Hills represent, also shoutout Queens for having its own stops on here.

1The Drama Book Shop266 W 39th St, New York, NY 10018New YorkScripts, scores, and anything theatre-craftThis is basically church for me?? I go in for one monologue book and leave two hours later having read the stage directions of six different shows out loud in the aisle (oops).
2The Mysterious Bookshop58 Warren Street, New York, NY 10007New YorkMystery, crime, whodunitsI went in for one Agatha Christie and came out questioning everyone in my stage crew — the vibe is THAT immersive.
3McNally Jackson (Seaport)4 Fulton Street, New York, NY 10038New YorkBrowsing, reading cornersThe couches here are prime real estate for pretending to read while actually eavesdropping on other people's book club arguments.
4Forbidden Planet832 Broadway, New York, NY 10003New YorkComics, sci-fi, graphic novelsMy set-painting brain goes feral in here — the comic art is basically a free masterclass in composition and color.
