nine books that have ridden around in my service van through more coolant leaks and parking tickets than i'd like to admit. read in waiting rooms while a centrifuge recalibrated, or at 5am on bernal hill waiting for the dog to finish her investigation of a bush. no system to this list, mostly just what didn't get coffee spilled on it beyond readability. anyway.
technically a short story cycle, structurally gorgeous, emotionally a wrecking ball. read it between two field calls once and showed up late to the second one staring at a wall.
revenge sci-fi from the 50s that still reads faster than most things published last year. jaunting as a transportation method would honestly cut my commute time in half.
a book about a robotics engineer in the bay area raising a sentient sourdough starter. hit uncomfortably close to home, minus the sentient part, as far as i know.
written by someone who clearly also stares at birds on a hill instead of doing anything productive. felt personally addressed, did not change my behavior, still recommend it.
