These are the eleven I kept circling back to this year between lease renewals and Mets collapses — some for the sentences, some for the plot, a couple because they fit perfectly in one hand while the other holds a glass. Picked up most of them at the Brooklyn indies that keep this borough honest. Listen, if you only read one off this list, make it the one I marked Verdict: Essential.

5North Woods	North Woods	Daniel Mason	WORD Bookstore, 126 Franklin St, Brooklyn	One house, centuries of tenants. As a landlord of sorts myself, this one hit different.
