Facilities manager by trade, so I notice the things punters don't. Boiler rooms, fire doors, the state of the lift carpet. This is the list for when the cousins from Cavan ask where to stay for a match weekend, judged the way Jim Gavin judged a panel: no passengers. Written with a flask of tea in hand and one eye on the telly.

Maldron Hotel Croke ParkMaldron Hotel Croke ParkDrumcondraClonliffe Road, Drumcondra, Dublin, D03 X6K3DublinHome ground, literally. Walk to Parnell Park in ten minutes, walk to Croker in five. The boiler room in this one would put some I've seen to shame.
Riu Plaza The GreshamRiu Plaza The GreshamO'Connell Street23 Upper O'Connell Street, Dublin 1, D01 C3W7DublinBeen standing since 1817, older than most county boards. Solid as a stone wall and right in the thick of it.
Anantara The Marker DublinAnantara The Marker DublinDocklandsGrand Canal Square, Docklands, Dublin 2, D02 CK38DublinFancy as anything, rooftop bar with views for miles. Not where I'd take the lads after a club match but grand for showing off.
The Clarence HotelThe Clarence HotelTemple Bar6-8 Wellington Quay, Dublin 2, D02 HT44DublinQuiet class by the Liffey, away from the stag-do racket a few streets over. Good bones on this building.
Maldron Hotel SmithfieldMaldron Hotel SmithfieldSmithfieldSmithfield, Dublin 7DublinCobblestones outside, decent breakfast inside. Smithfield's come on a lot, worth the stay just to see it.
