Okay so this started as a work thing (treating runners all day makes you crave a glass of something that is NOT a recovery smoothie) and turned into a whole hobby!! These are the spots in and around Boston where the wine is good, the seat is comfy, and the bartender will let me read my mystery novel in peace if I want to (I usually don't, I end up talking to everyone, oops). Updating this as I go — currently very into anywhere with a good natural wine list and a bar I can bring a book to.

1Tres Gatos	470 Centre St	Jamaica Plain, Boston, MA	All-Spanish wine list, sherry, tapas, and a vinyl/book shop built right in	$$$	My actual neighborhood spot!! I've read half a mystery series at that bar. The sherry flight will ruin you for regular wine, fair warning.
2Nathálie Wine Bar	186 Brookline Ave	Boston, MA	Natural and women-made wines in a sleek marble-bar setting	$$$	Haley.henry's fancier sibling, as I've heard it put. Great for a date night that doesn't feel like a date (asking for a friend, it was me).
3Barcelona Wine Bar	525 Tremont St	Boston, MA	Spanish tapas with a big, approachable wine list	$$$	My go-to for catching up with an old friend over a bottle we can't pronounce. Never a bad pour here, honestly.
