I keep a mental spreadsheet of where in London you can actually get a decent surface, a decent pint, and a decent chance nobody tells you to put the game away because 'other people want the table too'. This is that spreadsheet made public. (Rule one, which nobody asked for: a pub is only truly game-friendly if the staff don't hover. You can have the best lighting and the comfiest booth in Zone 3 but if someone's doing the 'are you still playing with that' lap every twenty minutes the whole evening curdles — I have genuinely left a pint unfinished over this. Rule two, equally unsolicited: round counts as a table booking, always tip like it was one.) Most of these are a bus or a sulky walk from Walthamstow, a few require the Overground, none of them require you to own Twilight Imperium, though I will still try to get you to play it.
A thousand-plus games and tables built so your cards don't slide under the ketchup. The original benchmark everything else gets measured against, unfairly.
Not board games exactly, more darts-shuffleboard-karaoke chaos, but it's five minutes from my flat and I have dragged people here at 9pm with zero notice.
Has a whole games clubhouse now, darts and the rest. Orford Road gets busy so book the room if you're bringing more than four people and a box the size of a coffee table.
