I audit balance sheets Monday to Friday and paperbacks on my lunch hour, so this is the running list of Dublin bookshops where I actually hand over cash. No chains that don't deserve the shelf space, no notes app recommendations from randomers — just the ones I keep going back to, rain or shine, Leinster win or loss.

Hodges FiggisThe granddaddy of Dublin bookshops, mentioned in Ulysses no less. I come in for one book and leave like I've just lost a scrum for possession — down four more than planned.Hodges Figgis56-58 Dawson StreetDublin
Books UpstairsSmall, steep stairs, massive poetry section. Good spot to hide from the office for twenty minutes and call it a 'client call'.Books Upstairs17 D'Olier StreetDublin
The Winding StairBooks downstairs, restaurant upstairs, river right outside. If my P&L looked this well balanced I'd frame it.The Winding Stair40 Lower Ormond QuayDublin
Ulysses Rare BooksFirst editions that cost more than my monthly rent. I just look, like window-shopping for a Ferrari, except the Ferrari is a first edition Joyce.Ulysses Rare Books10 Duke StreetDublin
