This is my personal Chicago pizza playbook: deep dish when friends visit, tavern-style when I’m homesick for the South Side, bougie sourdough when I’m pretending I “just like the craft.” You want a spot to start an argument about what counts as real Chicago pizza? Still slaps? Absolutely. Perfect pre- or post-game spot when you’re bouncing between class at UIC and a stroll toward the lake.
3Vito & Nick’s Pizzeria	OG South Side tavern-style, cracker thin	Sausage and giardiniera, square-cut	8433 S Pulaski Rd, Chicago, IL 60652	Ashburn	Chicago	Feels like walking into your uncle’s bar where everyone already has a favorite order. Long trip from campus, but this is the Chicago tavern-style benchmark in my head.
4Paulie Gee’s Logan Square	Wood-fired plus killer Detroit squares	“Pizza Cup Winner” Detroit-style square	2451 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60647	Logan Square	Chicago	Feels like a pizza lab. Crust is all airy and ridiculous, toppings are dialed in. Great date spot if your idea of romance is arguing about which pie was better.
5Piece Brewery & Pizzeria	New Haven–style, thin and charred	Red pie with pepperoni and hot cherry peppers	1927 W North Ave, Chicago, IL 60622	Wicker Park	Chicago	Come for the pizza, accidentally stay through three house beers and a Bulls game. The crust char plus the brewery situation is dangerous in the best way.
6Jimmy’s Pizza Cafe	Legit New York slices and squares	Plain cheese slice plus a square Sicilian	2434 W Montrose Ave, Chicago, IL 60618	Ravenswood / Lincoln Square	Chicago	Closest thing to grabbing a slice after the train in NYC, except you step out and it’s just Ravenswood trees and people walking their dogs. Late-night hero.
