Notebook full of half-finished scripts, hand full of cold pizza, subway rattling under me — this is the rotation I actually rewatch. Not a ranked-by-importance film school thing, just the ones that make the city on screen feel like the city I actually live in. Some are cozy, some make me want to sprint home and lock the door, one made me sweat through a slice just remembering it. Watch in any order, ideally with your own questionable snack situation going.

Do the Right ThingDo the Right Thing (1989)One block in Bed-Stuy on the hottest day of summerSpike Lee doesn't blink and neither should you. WATCH THIS ONE HOT, no AC, full commitment.
ManhattanManhattan (1979)Sutton Place bench under the 59th Street BridgeThat bridge-at-dawn shot ruined every other skyline for me. Rude, honestly.
Taxi DriverTaxi Driver (1976)Times Square back when it was actually grimyBeautiful and unsettling in equal measure, which tracks for most 3am subway rides too.
The WarriorsThe Warriors (1979)Coney Island all the way up to a Bronx subway platformBasically my commute home, minus the gang turf, plus worse shoes on my part.
When Harry Met SallyWhen Harry Met Sally (1989)Katz's Delicatessen on the Lower East SideI have ordered a pastrami sandwich there purely to feel something. No regrets.
MoonstruckMoonstruck (1987)A Brooklyn Heights brownstone stoop under a big fat moonCher slaps a man and falls in love in the SAME SCENE. Iconic. Unbeatable.
Uncut GemsUncut Gems (2019)47th Street Diamond District, all shouting and neonMy heart rate still hasn't fully recovered and it's been years, thanks Safdies.
KidsKids (1995)Washington Square Park fountain and skate spotsRough, uncomfortable, a little too close to some of my own aimless summers here.
The Basketball DiariesThe Basketball Diaries (1995)A cracked Lower East Side blacktop courtEvery pickup game I've lost flashes before my eyes watching this. Humbling.
SmokeSmoke (1995)A Prospect Park corner cigar shop, camera pointed at the sidewalkSlow, warm, full of strangers telling each other everything. My favorite kind of movie, honestly.
