When friends text asking where to go in a crisis, these are the places I send them instead of typing a paragraph about network adequacy and prior auth purgatory. Big academic systems, strong pharmacy departments, and enough sub-specialists that someone has probably published a paper on whatever you’ve got. All in the city, all places I’ve walked into without immediately wanting to turn around.

NewYork-Presbyterian / Weill Cornell Medical CenterAcademic medical centerTertiary/quaternary care across pretty much everythingUpper East Side525 East 68th Street, New York, NY 10065New York, NYIf I wake up intubated anywhere, this is a fine place for that to happen. Strong teams, good coordination, pharmacy actually answers the phone.
The Mount Sinai HospitalAcademic medical centerBig-system general and specialty careUpper East Side / East Harlem line1468 Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10029New York, NYClassic UES flagship. Crowded, a little chaotic, but the medicine is serious and the bench-to-bedside pipeline is real.
NYU Langone Health – Tisch HospitalAcademic hospitalHigh-acuity adult care, surgical servicesKips Bay550 First Avenue, New York, NY 10016New York, NYClean, efficient, and very purple. When someone wants ‘a big Manhattan hospital’ and doesn’t care which, this is usually what I picture.
NYC Health + Hospitals / BellevuePublic teaching hospitalSafety-net care, psych, trauma, everything that walks inKips Bay462 First Avenue, New York, NY 10016New York, NYThe city’s id. If you want to see real medicine across the spectrum of humanity, this is where you rotate. Rough edges, sharp clinicians.
