Umetnost između smena

When I’m not peering into people’s insides, I’m usually peering at something hung on a white wall. These are the galleries I keep circling back to when I claw a day off the rota. Strong coffee nearby is a plus; somewhere to sit and quietly fall apart is non‑negotiable. Think of this as my informal ward round of London art spaces — fewer bodily fluids, similar levels of existential crisis.

1Tate ModernBanksideInternational modern and contemporary art, big-ticket showsBankside, London SE1 9TGLondonThe Turbine Hall is basically an MRI for your soul: vast, loud, occasionally baffling, and you come out different even if you can’t say how.
2Hayward GallerySouth BankCutting-edge contemporary shows in brutalist concreteSouthbank Centre, Belvedere Road, London SE1 8XXLondonIf you enjoy feeling small and slightly unsettled, this bunker of concrete and cleverness does the job nicely. Think CT scanner, but for your capacity to cope with mirrors and voids.
3Saatchi GalleryChelseaLarge-scale contemporary art exhibitions, often thematicDuke of York’s HQ, King’s Road, London SW3 4RYLondonBig bright spaces and very polished shows. Like a well-funded private hospital: pristine, efficient, occasionally makes you wonder who’s really paying.
4Serpentine South GalleryKensington GardensContemporary art and the seasonal Serpentine PavilionKensington Gardens, London W2 3XALondonArt, trees and fresh air in one prescription. I go when the bleeping in my ears from monitors won’t stop; the park does a soft reboot on the brain.
5Barbican Art GalleryBarbicanMajor curated exhibitions in a brutalist complexBarbican Centre, Silk Street, London EC2Y 8DSLondonYou come for the show and stay because you got lost in the concrete and can’t find the exit. The exhibitions are usually worth the mild spatial disorientation.
6Royal Academy of ArtsPiccadillyHistoric institution, blockbuster shows, RA Schools and Summer ExhibitionBurlington House, Piccadilly, London W1J 0BDLondonThe grand old consultant of London galleries: venerable, a bit theatrical, but when it’s on form you remember why everyone still listens to it.
7Victoria MiroHoxton / Islington fringeThoughtful contemporary shows in warehouse-style spaces16 Wharf Road, London N1 7RWLondonFeels like sneaking into someone’s very tasteful vascular lab by the canal. Calm, precise, and the kind of work that quietly rewires you over time.
