The city is one long orthopedic hazard, but it’s also a pretty good playground if you pick your spots. I bounce between watching games, pretending I still have knees, and then fixing everyone else’s. These are the places I actually go, or send patients to when they swear they’re “taking it easy” and then text me from extra innings.

Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 5 Soccer Fields334 Furman St, Brooklyn, NY 11201Brooklyn, NYBest place to pull a hamstring with skyline views. Even the jog back to the G feels cinematic.
Sofive Brooklyn2015 Pitkin Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11207Brooklyn, NYFive‑a‑side, ten fields, zero excuses. I tell people to sub out before their lungs file for divorce.
Sportime Randall’s IslandOne Randall’s Island, New York, NY 10035New York, NYCountry‑club tennis energy without actually being in the country. Great courts, humbling backhands.
Yankee Stadium1 E 161st St, Bronx, NY 10451Bronx, NYYou go for the baseball, stay for the calf workout on the ramps. Monument Park is basically a shrine to overuse injuries.
The LayUp47 5th Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11217Brooklyn, NYPre‑ and post‑Barclays stop. TVs everywhere, crowd engaged, food solid. Noise level around a strong nine out of ten.
Paddy’s of Park Slope273 13th St, Brooklyn, NY 11215Brooklyn, NYNeighborhood bar that somehow fits soccer, hoops, and half the block. Feels like the place you wander into and then suddenly it’s the fourth quarter.
