Not a physical-places list this time, so no Address column here—just my brain's citation manager, dumped like I'm reading it aloud on the Red Line. These are the papers I've actually finished (not just screenshotted the abstract of) and thought about later while waiting for a bus. Mix of logistics nerdery, Chicago urbanism, and a couple that just rearranged furniture in my head. Rated like I rate pizza slices: by how long the aftertaste lasts.

The Problem of Social CostThe Problem of Social CostEconomics / LawEvery ops person eventually gets cornered into a 'who pays for the externality' argument at workCoase basically invented the group chat argument about whose fault the delay is. Dense but it RECONFIGURES how you see every contract dispute

Crisis on the Red Line: Ridership Recovery PatternsCrisis on the Red Line: Ridership Recovery PatternsUrban Transit PolicyLive it every single morning, figured I'd read the receiptsConfirmed with data what my commute already told me anecdotally. Ten out of ten, would cite at a CTA board meeting if invited
A Mathematical Theory of CommunicationA Mathematical Theory of CommunicationInformation TheorySomeone said 'entropy' at a warehouse ops meeting and I panicked and went home and looked it upShannon 1948, still the blueprint for literally every signal that's ever traveled anywhere. Humbling in a way pizza never is
The Bullwhip Effect in Supply ChainsThe Bullwhip Effect in Supply ChainsOperations ManagementThis is LITERALLY my job description explained in one graph, felt seenSmall demand blips turn into giant order swings upstream. Explains every panicked email I've ever sent about pallets
Density, Distance, and Segregation in the American CityDensity, Distance, and Segregation in the American CityUrban StudiesA North Sider has to at least try to understand the whole map, not just her six blocksMade me look at the Chicago grid completely differently on my next Blue Line ride. Uncomfortable but necessary reading
The Tragedy of the CommonsThe Tragedy of the CommonsEnvironmental EconomicsThe office fridge situation demanded academic interventionHardin, 1968. Explains shared fridges, shared pastures, and shared CTA seats with someone's bag on them. Timeless and a little infuriating
On the Origin of Objects: A History of Standardized Shipping ContainersOn the Origin of Objects: A History of Standardized Shipping ContainersLogistics HistoryA container ship got stuck somewhere a while back and I fell down a research hole and never climbed outThe container basically built the modern world and nobody puts it on a plaque. My favorite kind of unsung hero paper
