Not a syllabus, just the stuff I actually reread. Half of these came out of arguments with friends about traffic or flooding, one came out of an argument about whether a good screen is a wasted possession (it isn't). Rated on the only scale that matters: does it change how you see the city, or is it just a stat line. Basketball comp included where relevant, because everything is basketball if you squint.

1Sea-Level Rise and the Geography of Economic Activity in MiamiThis is the one I send to every out-of-town friend who asks why I don't buy oceanfront. 4Traffic Congestion and Highway Capacity in South FloridaInduced demand, basically confirmed with data. I bring this up every time someone suggests widening 95 will fix the Brickell commute. It won't. 5Ocean Acidification Impacts on Biscayne Bay Coral CommunitiesMakes snorkeling off Key Biscayne feel a little different. 6Tourism Dependency and Economic Resilience in Coastal CitiesRelevant every time a food truck I love in Brickell has a rough month. Diversify the offense, basically, or one bad possession sinks the whole quarter.EconomicsFIU Chapman School researchers2019Tourism EconomicsCities overweighted on tourism GDP recover slower from external shocks17 min
7Gig Economy Platforms and Labor Precarity in Urban Delivery ServicesI think about this every time a delivery app driver beats an ETA I'd have called optimistic. 8Efficiency and Frequency of the Pick-and-Roll in Professional BasketballThe one paper on this list I'd defend in an actual argument at a bar.
