Ran the numbers (unofficially, no p-values here) on every pizza place I've hit up between classes, hoops, and 2am cravings. Deep dish, tavern-cut, coal-fired, doesn't matter — if the crust-to-cheese ratio is off I'm out. These 8 are my current standings, subject to change like every econ model I've ever trusted.

Lou Malnati's PizzeriaThe baseline everyone gets graded against. Buttery crust is basically a sunk cost you WANT to pay. Tourists love it, I still love it, no shame.Deep dish439 N Wells StChicago$$
Pizano's Pizza & PastaUnderrated pick because it does BOTH crusts well, which is rare. Good downtown option when you're between the library and nowhere else to be.Thin crust and deep dish61 E Madison StChicago$$
Coalfire PizzaChar on the bottom hits different when it's actual coal doing the work. Small spot, high variance in wait, worth it anyway.Coal-fired thin crust1321 W Grand AveChicago$$
Great LakeTiny place, tiny hours, huge reputation. Getting a table here feels like an econ elective that's always full. Worth the grind.Small-batch artisan1477 W Balmoral AveChicago$$$
Spacca NapoliReal VPN cert, real wood-fired oven, real soupy center that some people hate and I respect. Ravenswood trek is fully justified.Certified Neapolitan1769 W Sunnyside AveChicago$$
Vito & Nick's PizzeriaOG tavern cut, cracker-thin, cut into squares like it should be. Southwest side trek but the price-to-slice ratio is elite.Tavern-style thin crust8433 S Pulaski RdChicago$
