Nine books that survive every Marie Kondo purge and get reread more often than my syllabus. Half are stubbornly, specifically about Boston; all of them are about people who won't quit, which is the only quality I share with the 2004 Red Sox. Filed here so I stop losing them under the gin bottles.

NameAuthorGenreVerdict
1Paul Revere's RideDavid Hackett FischerAmerican Revolution historyThe horse gets more narrative credit than most starting pitchers get run support. Assign this before anyone repeats the poem wrong at a dinner party.
2Common GroundJ. Anthony LukasBoston historySix hundred pages on the busing crisis and I still recommend it to anyone who thinks Boston's neighborhoods are just T stops with attitude.
3The Proper BostoniansCleveland AmorySocial historyOld-money Beacon Hill, dissected with a scalpel and a smirk. Explains half the paintings in my museum's donor wing.
4Fenway 1912Glenn StoutBaseball historyThe Green Monster's origin story, basically. I read the concrete-pouring chapter every spring like it's scripture before Opening Day.
5The Big FellaJane LeavySports biographyYes, the Ruth trade still stings. No, I will not be taking questions on the Curse at office hours.
