Nine local services vetted the hard way, by using them, paying for them, and occasionally arguing about the invoice. No fly-by-night vans, no 'free quote' cowboys — just the firms and shops that turn up when they say they will. QS by trade, so I notice when a bill is padded. These ones mostly aren't.
