Look, I love this city, but half these shows get Chicago about as right as a Cubs fan explaining the infield fly rule. Still, here's the ones I put on when the Sox game ends early or rained out, ranked by how much they get US right versus how much they get us WRONG. Fight me at trivia Wednesday.

Chicago FireChicago Fire (2012–present)Firehouse 51, fictional, filmed around the cityDecent, actually shot on locationMy brother-in-law's a union ironworker and even HE watches this one. That says something.
Chicago PDChicago P.D. (2014–present)Fictional District 21, ChicagoThey drive past the same three landmarks every episodeGood background noise for folding laundry. Not a compliment, not an insult.
The BearThe Bear (2022–present)The Original Beef of Chicagoland, River NorthScary accurate, even the yellingThis show made me cry over a sandwich shop. ME. A grown man who wires buildings for a living.
ShamelessShameless (2011–2021)Back of the Yards neighborhoodFilmed in LA half the time but the attitude's realEleven seasons of chaos and I watched every one. No regrets.
ERER (1994–2009)Fictional County General Hospital, ChicagoMostly a soundstage but who cares, it's a classicMy ma had this on every Thursday for fifteen years straight. Not touching that legacy.
The ChiThe Chi (2018–2024)South Side neighborhoodsShoots in actual neighborhoods tourists never seeHeavy stuff but honest. Not a laugh-track-and-a-beer kind of show.
Chicago MedChicago Med (2015–present)Fictional Gaffney Chicago Medical CenterSame Wolf-universe formula, different scrubsMy wife's into this one. I tolerate it for domestic peace.
Married... with ChildrenMarried... with Children (1987–1997)Fictional Chicago suburbThat flyby intro is the most Chicago thing about itPure comfort rerun material. Al Bundy's basically every guy at the bar on a bad night.
Family MattersFamily Matters (1989–1998)Fictional Chicago householdLight on specifics, heavy on UrkelDid I need twelve seasons of this? No. Did I watch reruns anyway? Also yes.
