Manchester's landlocked, like, proper landlocked. But give us a day off and a full tank and we'll find you a lump of rock with a pub on it every time. These are the islands I've actually bothered going to, ranked on vibes, pints, and whether you'll get cut off by the tide. Bring wellies, bring cash, don't trust the satnav near Hilbre.

2Walney Island	Big sandy island off Barrow with two nature reserves and proper beaches	Drive or walk over the Jubilee Bridge from Barrow-in-Furness	Underrated, nobody from Manchester ever mentions it and that's exactly why I like it
