Honestly, I end up in a gallery or a museum more weekends than not, dragging whoever I can find along with the promise of a pint or a bowl of pasta after. These are the ones in and around the city that I keep going back to, from the big national spots to the small quiet rooms nobody tells you about, with my own daft two cents on each.

NameAddressCityMy take
1Little Museum of Dublin15 St Stephen's Green, Dublin 2, D02 Y066DublinThe guided tour is only short but it flies by, lovely for bringing visiting pals who think Dublin history is boring, it is not.
2Irish Museum of Modern ArtRoyal Hospital, Military Road, Kilmainham, Dublin 8, D08 FW31DublinMy actual happy place, the gardens alone are worth the walk out and there's always something brilliant and strange on in the main galleries.
3EPIC The Irish Emigration MuseumCHQ Building, Custom House Quay, Dublin 1, D01 T2V3DublinSounds like a tourist trap but it's not, it's interactive and surprisingly emotional, I cried a small bit near the end and I'm not even sorry.
4National Museum of Ireland ArchaeologyKildare Street, Dublin 2, D02 F277DublinThe bog bodies get me every time, dead unsettling in the best way, and the building itself is a proper stunner to just stand in.
5Museum of Literature Ireland86 St Stephen's Green, Dublin 2, D02 YY88DublinLovely little café attached too, so you can sit with a coffee after seeing Ulysses copy number one and feel very cultured about it.
