Second Fridays I'm all sketchbook and gallery light, but the other mornings belong to this list (slow pour, loud mural out the window, the whole bit). These are the spots I actually return to on foot from my place, the ones where the barista stopped asking for my order around visit four. Judge a neighborhood by its coffee and honestly Pilsen wins every time (fight me about it over a cortadito).

1Cafe Jumping Bean	1439 W 18th St	Chicago	The original, and it knows it. Mismatched chairs, murals on every wall, chess games happening in a corner like it's 1995 (it kind of still is, in the best way).
2La Malinche Coffee & Tea House	2110 S Halsted St	Chicago	Their iced horchata latte ruined me for regular lattes. I bring my sketchbook here when I want company noise but not conversation.
3Anticonquista Café	952 W 18th St	Chicago	Beans sourced from the owners' own farms, which sounds like marketing until you taste it. Small menu, big flavor, the kind of place you root for.
4A Cup of Joe Coffeehouse	1309 W 18th St	Chicago	Independently owned, deeply Pilsen, open mic energy even when there's no mic — I've done more journaling here than anywhere else on this list.
