Compiled the way I compile everything: on index cards, over several Sunday jazz brunches, with strong opinions about which bottle pairs with which ending argument. This is less a definitive wine map than a reader's advisory for grapes — where I send book club when the plot (or the Merlot) needs help, and where 57th Street still smells faintly of the old bookshop it replaced.

3Binny's Beverage Depot (Kenwood)Binny's Beverage Depot1531 E 53rd StChicagoSancerre, for the Hemingway in all of usSmall footprint, deep bench. Good for when the book club disagrees so violently we need a backup bottle on the way home.
4The PromontoryThe Promontory5311 S Lake Park AveChicagoA glass from the forgotten-grape list, redNamed for the lakefront point where I've argued about Austen endings in better weather. The wine list leans toward regions history nearly forgot, which feels very on-brand for a librarian.
