Right, addresses confirmed. I know the British Museum postcode by heart and the Tate Modern turbine hall like the back of my hand \u2014 that's not this list. This is the stuff I drag mates to when they think a museum day is just the V&A gift shop. Horniman on a Sunday after a match beats any away day. Bring layers, some of these rooms are colder than a January morning at the Rec.

Sir John Soane's MuseumFree, mental, and stuffed with more sarcophagi than any Georgian house has a right to. Book ahead or queue like it's a big cup tie.13 Lincoln's Inn Fields, London WC2A 3BPLondon
Museum of the HomePeriod living rooms that make your own flat look like a crime scene. Gardens are lovely, café does a decent flat white.136 Kingsland Road, London E2 8EALondon
Horniman Museum and GardensWalrus is overstuffed, aquarium's ace, and the view over the gardens beats most pitches I've played on.100 London Road, Forest Hill, London SE23 3PQLondon
British LibraryTechnically a library, but the Treasures gallery is proper museum territory. Magna Carta next to a Beatles lyric sheet, no notes.96 Euston Road, London NW1 2DBLondon
Tate ModernTurbine Hall makes you feel small in a good way. Bit like getting outpaced by a winger half your age.Bankside, London SE1 9TGLondon
Design MuseumSleek building, sleeker chairs. Free permanent collection upstairs if you're skint after away-day pints.224-238 Kensington High Street, London W8 6AGLondon
Natural History MuseumDino skeleton's moved about more than our back four. Still worth the crowds if you time it right, early doors.Cromwell Road, London SW7 5BDLondon
Museum of London DocklandsOld sugar warehouse full of proper East End shipping history. Quieter than the big-name spots, which suits me fine.West India Quay, 1 Warehouse, London E14 4ALLondon
Whitechapel GalleryNot strictly a museum but I'm including it anyway, it's my list. Cracking contemporary shows, five minutes from a decent curry.77-82 Whitechapel High Street, London E1 7QXLondon
