Not a place list, this time — no addresses, just a running tally I've kept since college of shows that actually claim my city as their home court. I grade these the way I grade a box score: does the setting show up or is it garbage-time scenery? (Looking at you, shows that film two exteriors on the Common and call it a season.) Ranked loosely by how much Boston is actually IN the show, not just name-dropped. Current binge, for the record: still not over how City on a Hill used the Seaport like it owed it money.

CheersCheers (1982–1993)Set entirely in a fictional Beacon Hill bar, exteriors modeled on the real Bull & Finch Pub28 Emmys is a stat line nobody's touching. Norm walking in is basically the greatest recurring assist in sitcom history.
The PracticeThe Practice (1997–2004)David E. Kelley legal drama following a Boston defense firmKelley's got a whole Boston legal-verse going. This is the scrappy underdog roster before Boston Legal got the superteam budget.
Boston LegalBoston Legal (2004–2008)Spin-off of The Practice, same fictional firm, glossier and funnierDenny and Alan on the balcony with scotch is appointment TV energy. Ratings-wise this thing had a longer shelf life than half the sitcoms of its era.
FringeFringe (2008–2013)FBI Fringe Division based out of Boston, Harvard campus featured heavilySci-fi weirdness with a real Boston backbone (that Harvard lab set is doing a lot of lifting). Slow first few episodes, then it turns into a stat anomaly you can't explain.
BansheeCity on a Hill (2019–2022)Kevin Bacon as an FBI agent working Boston in the 90s busing-era aftermath, shot on locationSeaport and Southie get real screen time here, not just postcard shots. Kevin Bacon's accent takes a quarter to warm up but by season two he's shooting free throws blindfolded.
Ray DonovanRay Donovan (2013–2020)Later seasons pivot the family drama back to South Boston rootsMostly an LA show wearing a Southie jersey, but the flashback seasons hit different once you know the neighborhood.
Crossing JordanCrossing Jordan (2001–2007)Medical examiner drama set in a fictional Boston morgueEarly-2000s procedural comfort food. Not flashy, just consistently there, like a reliable long two before everyone cared about efficiency stats.
Boston PublicBoston Public (2000–2004)David E. Kelley drama set in a fictional Boston public high schoolKelley's third Boston property on this list (guy's basically got a franchise going). Melodramatic as hell but the teacher's-lounge chaos is weirdly rewatchable.
