Half these came from a Chapters Books sale bin, the other half from someone shoving them at me across a pub table saying 'you have to read this.' No system, no snobbery about it. Some are proper Dublin books, some just followed me home from a Hodges Figgis browse when I should've been getting the Luas. This is the pile that survived three house moves without ending up in a charity shop box, which is basically the only quality control I apply these days.

5Skippy Dies	Skippy Dies	Paul Murray	Funniest sad book on the shelf. Devoured it in one sitting on a wet bank holiday Monday.
6The Gathering	The Gathering	Anne Enright	Bleak, brilliant, and somehow still funny about it. Classic big miserable Irish family stuff, done properly.
7A History of Ireland in 100 Objects	A History of Ireland in 100 Objects	Fintan O'Toole	Dip in for five minutes to check one object, surface an hour later having read half the book.
81916: The Easter Rising	1916: The Easter Rising	Tim Pat Coogan	The book I keep lending out and never getting back. Currently on its third owner, allegedly.
9The Course of Irish History	The Course of Irish History	T.W. Moody and F.X. Martin	Dense as a scone left out overnight, but it's the one lecturers actually still teach from.
10The Test	The Test	Seán O'Brien	Read most of it in a pub corner after a Thursday match. Correct context for a rugby memoir.
