Stades où je reviens sans cesse

My brain’s basically a hard drive full of fixtures, so this is the list I send mates when they ask, “Where should we watch something actually happen?” It’s a mix of cathedrals of football, cricket’s nerd temples, and the Olympic leftovers that turned out to be ridiculously good fun. Think of it as my passing map across London’s sporting spine: some obvious big diagonals, a few geeky little triangles, and the odd long ball to Twickenham when you just need to hear a national anthem belted out live.

Emirates StadiumFootballBig Premier League nights and actually seeing the patterns of playFeels like watching football in a spaceship. Sightlines are so clean you can basically do your own xG model in your head.Hornsey Road, London N7 7AJLondon
Tottenham Hotspur StadiumFootballHigh-intensity derbies and pretending you care about the NFL game thereLike someone asked, ‘What if a stadium was also a tech demo?’ Atmosphere really pops when Spurs are flying; feels like watching gegenpressing in 8K.782 High Road, London N17 0BXLondon
Wembley StadiumFootball, concerts, big finalsCup finals, play-offs, and the ‘we might actually win something’ delusionThe arch is basically London’s Bat-Signal for ‘something massive is on’. Getting home is extra time plus penalties, but walking up Wembley Way never gets old.South Way, Wembley HA9 0WSWembley
Lord’s Cricket GroundCricketLong test days, people-watching, and nerding out over field settingsThe only place where you can analyse a leg slip trap and a champagne purchase with the same level of scrutiny. That slope is basically home advantage in topographical form.St John’s Wood Road, London NW8 8QNLondon
The Kia OvalCricketEnd-of-summer tests and spicy white-ball eveningsFeels more ‘London’ than Lord’s somehow – more noise, more colour, less blazers. Under lights, with the Vauxhall towers looming, it’s pure cricket cyberpunk.Kennington Oval, London SE11 5SSLondon
Twickenham StadiumRugby unionSix Nations, autumn internationals, and testing your vocal cordsIf Wembley is the FA’s boardroom, Twickenham is the RFU’s beer garden. When ‘Swing Low’ gets going it’s like a high press made of sound.200 Whitton Road, Twickenham TW2 7BATwickenham
Lee Valley VeloParkCycling (track, road, BMX, MTB)Trying not to think about gravity on a 42-degree bankingThe first time you step onto the track, your brain goes, ‘this can’t be right’. Then someone flies past at 60km/h and you understand marginal gains in your soul.Abercrombie Road, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London E20 3ABLondon
London Aquatics CentreSwimming and diving50m sets where you pretend you’re in lane four of an Olympic finalZaha Hadid roof, Olympic pool, my very average freestyle. Still feels epic. It’s like doing recovery sessions in a Champions League stadium bath.Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Stratford, London E20 2AQLondon
Copper Box ArenaBasketball, handball, esports, multi-sportLondon Lions games, noisy indoor nights, and the odd LAN crowd surfCompact, loud, and weirdly versatile. One week it’s EuroCup basketball, the next it’s an esports event where fans chant like it’s a cup replay.Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London E20 3HBLondon
Stamford BridgeFootballEuropean nights where tension is higher than Chelsea’s wage billOld bones, modern gloss. You can feel the history in the tight corners – it’s like a classic 4-4-2 that’s learned a few modern pressing triggers.Fulham Road, London SW6 1HSLondon
