Okay so between anatomy flashcards and my hunt for the best pho bowl in the city (ongoing, send tips), I've been museum-hopping HARD this semester and I have Thoughts!! From giant blue whales to tiny mechanical fortune tellers, SF's museum scene is hella underrated and I need everyone to know it. Here's my very unofficial, very excited ranking bc I'm a nerd who loves both mitochondria AND modern art 🔬🖼️

Name	Comment	Neighborhood	Focus	Price Vibe
SFMOMA	I literally got lost in here for FOUR hours and did not care lol. The living wall alone is worth it, so pretty 🌿	SoMA	Modern & contemporary art	$$
De Young Museum	That copper tower observation deck?? Free to go up and the view is hella dreamy at golden hour ✨	Golden Gate Park	American art & textiles	$$
California Academy of Sciences	As a pre-med girlie I NEED you to know the rainforest dome will make you feel things. Also penguins. PENGUINS. 🐧	Golden Gate Park	Natural history & aquarium	$$$
Exploratorium	Ok this is basically a physics playground for adults and I am NOT too old for it, don't @ me 😤	Embarcadero	Hands-on science	$$
Asian Art Museum	Went here after a bowl of pho down the street and honestly a perfect combo, my heart was SO full 🍜🙏	Civic Center	Asian art & artifacts	$$
Contemporary Jewish Museum	The building's weird angular shape confused me for a solid five minutes but the exhibits inside are SO thoughtfully done	SoMA	Contemporary & Jewish culture	$$
Cable Car Museum	FREE and you get to watch the actual cables that move the cable cars right there in front of you, it's giving hidden gem energy 🚋	Nob Hill	SF transit history	Free
Musée Mécanique	This place is SO random and SO fun, like a haunted arcade from the 1900s?? I fed a fortune teller machine my quarters and do not regret it lmao	Fisherman's Wharf	Vintage arcade & mechanical games	Free entry
Randall Museum	Literally free and has live animals and a view of the whole city, my fellow broke pre-med students THIS is your museum 🐾	Corona Heights	Nature & community science	Free
