This isn't about horsepower, it's about the ones that make me miss my train stop. I look up from my book on the platform, or mid-bite at the diner counter, because something parked outside just changed the whole block's mood. New York doesn't really do car culture the way other cities do (we mostly just resent alternate side parking) but the ones that survive here earn it. These are the ones I text a photo of to no one in particular.

NameWhere I Spot ItWhy It Gets Me
Checker Marathon TaxiOccasionally at classic car meets in GreenpointThe original yellow cab, boxy and unbothered. Every modern cab is trying to be this and failing, and honestly, that's enough.
Citi Bike (yes, really)Every corner, but I like the row outside Washington Square ParkNot a car, I know. But it's the thing that actually moves this city, and it never once asked me for parking.
NYPD Highway Patrol Ford InterceptorIdling near the Brooklyn Bridge on-rampThere's something about the black-and-white paneling that still reads as menace at 7am. Respect.
Classic Yellow Checker Cab (restored)Parked outside the Museum of the City of New York on a good daySomeone kept this thing alive out of pure stubbornness. I respect a person who loves an object more than is reasonable.
UPS Package CarDouble-parked everywhere, always, no apologiesThe most confident vehicle in New York. It has never once used a turn signal and it doesn't need to.
Horse-Drawn CarriageCentral Park South, near the PlazaBarely a car, more a rebuttal to cars. Slow on purpose in a city that never is.
Classic Cadillac FleetwoodSpotted once outside a wedding hall in Bay Ridge, never forgot itLong enough to need its own zip code. Whoever owns it clearly still irons their shirts.
MTA Bus (articulated)Bending around the corner on Fordham Road like it's nothingWatching an accordion bus turn a tight corner is a small miracle I never get tired of.
Food Cart Truck53rd and 6th, the famous halal cart cornerNot glamorous, never parked straight, but it's fed me at 1am more times than any car ever has.
