This is just the stuff that's actually in my cabinet, not some list I made up to sound fancy. Forty years in this neighborhood teaches you that the good stuff doesn't need a marketing department. I grabbed a couple bottles at the usual Queens spots "” Austin Wine & Spirits and a few trips over to Park Avenue Liquors in Manhattan when I needed something specific. No frills here, just what I pour after a long day fixing somebody's boiler and watching the Mets find a new way to lose.

1Buffalo Trace	Buffalo Trace	90	$25-$30	The Mets of bourbon, dependable even when nothing else is going right. Pour it, don't think about it, get on with your night.
2Eagle Rare 10 Year	Eagle Rare	90	$35-$45	Ten years in a barrel and it still shows up to work smooth. Reminds me of the guys who show up on time to a job, rare breed.
3Four Roses Single Barrel	Four Roses Single Barrel	100	$40-$50	Spicy enough to wake you up, smooth enough to keep you sitting. Good for a night when the game goes extra innings.
4Woodford Reserve	Woodford Reserve	90.4	$35-$40	A little dressed up for my taste, like it wore a sport coat to the bar. Still pours a solid drink though.
